Prosthesis should be offered to all patients undergoing orchidectomy.
There is no evidence that inserting prosthesis at the time of orchidectomy has different risks to placing it at a later date.
If placing at the time – after orchidectomy, antibiotic wash irrigation and change of gloves.
In practice a lot of urologists defer prosthesis insertion until a later date, especially if the patient has a high likelihood of needing chemotherapy, but discuss it with all patients.
